2004 SJSU 6-a-Side Tournament Runners-Up Saturday, May 8, 2004 On May 8, 2004 DV8 Soccer Club participated in San Jose State University’s 3rd Annual 6-a-side tournament. Hoping to impove upon its semi-final exit in 2003, DV8 began its quest early on Saturday morning with several victories in the first round of play. After four games of round robin play, DV8 was through to the semi-finals of the tournament and faced a young and quick SJSU squad that had eliminated DV8 the previous year. SJSU had a large crowd behind them, and it was a closely contested game; in the end, however, DV8 emerged with an 8-5 victory and a trip to the finals. In the finals DV8 faced the defending champs, Team Green, who had advanced to the finals for the 3rd consecutive year. The final game was a defensive standoff, with a score of 3-3 after regulation. Five (5) minutes of sudden death was to follow and determine the winner. In the opening moments of overtime, DV8 was on the verge of celebration; yet, a break-away one-on-one hit the post and paved the way for a momentum shift. It was DV8 that scored the winning goal . . . unfortunately, it was a defensive error, with a defender squeezing the ball into the right side of DV8's own net. Nevertheless, it was a valiant effort by everyone who played; next year, our objective will once again be to score the winning goal--hopefully in our opponent's net! Stay tuned . . .
